LAFAYETTE, La. (KFLY)—News 10 has discovered a connection between Thursday morning’s homicide and a gruesome murder which occurred in June.

Just after midnight on Thursday, Lafayette police responded to a shooting on Ninth Street, where they found was 20-year-old Tyler Etienne shot multiple times.

Etienne was brought to a local hospital where he later died.

In Late June of this year, KLFY reported a vehicle fire in Scott which later turned out to be the murder scene of Ashley Metz.

Now we have discovered Etienne’s mother and Metz’s mother are sisters.

Three months after burying her daughter, Carla Dean and her family are planning a funeral for her nephew.

“Basically, it’s like starting all over again for the day everything unfolded for Ashley.” Said Dean, “So, this is like déjà vu. I’m still torn up. There’s a lot of pain behind my smiles every day.”

Tyler Etienne’s sister, Kayla Etienne said losing Tyler is like losing a son, “I was broken, I was hurt! I didn’t want to believe it. I had all kinds of mixed feeling really. It just feels so unreal.

Both Tyler and Ashley’s lives were lost to violent crime, and dean said her family is starting the healing process all over again.

“So now, we were actually getting back a little bit of feeling, now the feeling is gone all over again,” Said Dean, “So, it’s like you’re right back at square one.”

The investigation into Etienne’s death is ongoing.

If you have any information about the vehicle of interest or any information, call Crime Stoppers or Lafayette Police.

There will be a vigil this Sunday to celebrate the life of Tyler Etienne at 2 p.m. at Gethsename Church on 12th Street.
