Lafayette, La. (KLFY) UL Lafayette Police announced Saturday that two men involved in staging an armed robbery last month are in custody.
On Saturday September 25, 2016 University Police responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred on UL campus near Cajun Village Apartments.
It was reported that two men dressed in dark clothing and wearing a mask, robbed three individuals at gunpoint while they were sitting in their vehicle.
Public Information Officer Billy Abrams says it was later discovered during the course of the investigation that two of the three individuals that said they were robbed had in fact assisted in setting up the robbery of the third individual and investigators discovered the robbery was a result of a staged drug deal.
Abrams said the two suspects were identified and a search warrant was obtained and executed at the off campus residence of the two subjects that assisted in planning the robbery.
Investigators located items taken in the robbery as well as two semi-automatic handguns, marijuana, ecstasy, and Xanax pills.
As a result of what was discovered through the search warrant, 19 year old Brennan Andre Anderson, and 19 year old Jacob Paul Timothy were arrested.
Both were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute Xanax, possession of ecstasy, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, and obstruction of justice and were booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Anderson’s bond was set at $58,000 and Timothy’s bond was set at $77,000.
The case is still under investigation and more arrests are possible.
