JENNINGS, La (KLFY) – In Jeff Davis Parish, a Jennings woman is behind bars and authorities are also searching for her boyfriend, 29-year-old Justin King of Ville Platte, in connection with a child cruelty case.
Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s arrested 30-year-old Angelle Mann of Jennings, this comes after deputies say Mann’s baby was severely injured while in her and her boyfriend’s care.
“I didn’t know there was even a kid in the house,” said Wilfred Kebodeaux.
Kebodeaux lives next door to the home that Mann and King shared and says he was unaware that a baby was even living with the couple.
“Never heard nothing from them, no fighting or nothing,” said Kebodeaux.
Deputies say they received a report back in September that Mann’s 11-month old child was taken to a hospital with a swollen head. Doctors told authorities that the infant had two fractures on the skull.
The news came as a shock to Kebodeaux, although he says he doesn’t know much about the couple whom he says has only been living next door for about a month.
“I helped them when they moved in, but when she goes to work I don’t see her because I’d be doing something when she’d leave, then when she come back it was after dark,” said Kebodeaux. “I seen him outside in the back, but everytime I seen him he was always stuck on the phone for hours.”
The sheriff’s office is not opening up with more information surrounding the case and the child’s current condition remains unknown.
Mann is charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and also has an outstanding warrant for worthless checks.
The case remains under investigation.
