State Police investigating separate fatal crashes in Acadiana

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – State Police are currently investigating two separate fatal crashes that happened in Acadiana late last night.

The first crash happened in Breaux Bridge just after 9 p.m. on Anse Broussard Highway at Juleau Champagne Road near Breaux Bridge in St. Martin Parish.

Master Trooper Brooks David said a 2011 Toyota Camry exited the right side of the roadway and flipped several times.

Both the driver and a passenger were not wearing seat-belts and were ejected from the car during the crash.

The passenger, Christopher Richard, 40, of St. Martinville was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish coroner.

David said the driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a Lafayette General Hospital. Troopers obtained a blood sample from the driver as part on their investigation.

The second crash happened around 11:15 p.m. on US 167 at LA 182 in St. Landry Parish.

Investigators say Al Fournier, 34, of Lawtell, was riding a 2009 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle eastbound and hit the back of 2005 Dodge Durango SUV.

The crash caused the Durango to leave the roadway and hit a light pole. Fournier was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish coroner.

The driver of the Durango was not wearing a seat-belt and suffered minor injuries in the crash.

State Police are still investigating both crashes.
