(The Daily Advertiser) – The Ragin’ Cajuns are breaking out new, specially designed uniforms for their ESPN2-televised game Wednesday night against Appalachian State.

The game is being called a “Whiteout” by the UL athletics marketing department, which is asking Cajun fans to wears white clothing to Cajun Field for the Sun Belt Conference midweek game against the Mountaineers.

According to a program Facebook posting, UL’s apparel provider, Adidas, has provided uniquely designed all-white uniforms featuring red numerals over a fleur-de-lis on the jersey and a fleur-de-lis on the pants as well.

The Cajun helmets Wednesday, according to the same posting, will be white with a red stripe over the top and a red fleur-de-lis on the side.

UL’s opponent, Appalachian State, plans to wear gold jerseys for the first time this season, according to a tweet from its equipment department.

The 2-3 Cajuns also called a “Whiteout” for their 45-10 season-opening loss to Boise State, but instead of all white they wound up wearing red jerseys, white pants and white helmets.

Other uniform combinations for the Cajuns this season: red helmets, red jerseys and white pants for a home win over McNeese State; all red for a home win over South Alabama; red helmets, white jerseys and white pants for a quadruple-overtime loss at Tulane; and all white (but different jerseys and pants) for their last outing, a 37-31 double-overtime loss at New Mexico State on Oct. 1.

According to UL, the “Ragin’ Cajuns Store” will be selling $5 white t-shirts for Wednesday night’s game.
