LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) Northside High School’s mock trial team recently returned from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut after competing in a nationwide competition.
During Tuesday’s Lafayette City-Parish Council Meeting, the students were recognized for their achievements during the competition.
Nine Northside students were chosen to perform mock trials against 24 other teams from across the country.
In August, the Northside team had received information on the case they had to present during the competition.
It was a criminal case and the students had to prepare both sides of the case, so they had to know everything about the plaintiff and the defendants.
The students also had to have opening and closing statements prepared.
When not competing, the Northside students had a chance to learn from Yale’s national award-winning mock trial team.
Tuesday, the student members were honored during a ceremonial presentation by Lafayette City-Parish Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux.
