LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– The man found shot sitting in a car on Sunday has now been identified.
Lafayette Police confirmed the victim in the shooting as 37-year-old John Paul Batiste of Arnaudville. “He was transported to a local hospital where
“He was transported to a local hospital where he, unfortunately, passed away as a direct result of the gunshot wounds,” said LPD Public Information Officer Karl Ratcliff.
Lafayette Police say the suspect in the shooting has been identified as 17 year-old Brian Harris of Lafayette.
Police reported that a warrant had been issued for Harris for Second-Degree Murder.
Once police find the suspect, hopefully, they’ll find the answer to what lead to Batiste being shot and left to die. Ratcliff says it’s a scenario that has come to be way to common. “We don’t want to keep investigating these homicides. We don’t want to keep notifying people that their loved ones are no longer with us,” adds Officer Ratcliff.
“Stop the Violence and this and that; but it’s been like that,” says Lafayette resident Desmond Garrick. Garrick says he’s heard about the shooting and agrees there needs to be an end to what’s happening. “I just wish that people would worry about the right things in life,” explains Garrick.
Lafayette police are also looking for Kirt Favors for questioning in reference to this homicide. “Help from the community is absolutely something we have to have if we want to do our job effectively and try to avoid tragedies like this in the future,” says Ratcliff.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Kirt Favors is asked to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Lafayette Crimestoppers at 232-TIPS.
