(The Daily Advertiser) – Soon, area shoppers won’t have to set foot inside a store to pick up their groceries.
Wal-Mart is rolling out free curbside service in three Acadiana stores starting Oct. 31.
Shoppers can register online at walmart.com/grocery, purchase goods and reserve a time to pick up their items at designated areas outside the store.
More than 30,000 items, including fresh produce, meat and organics, are available for purchase and pickup. Items are priced the same online as they are in stores.
The move is part of the retail giant’s goal to offer customers a variety of ways to shop and, in the end, save busy people time, spokesman Scott Markley said.
“We want to provide for our customers how they want to shop, whether that be on walmart.com or in their local stores,” he said. “Giving back time to our customers is invaluable.”
Shoppers can schedule a pickup time up to three weeks in advance or, if they order by 10 a.m., retrieve their items after 4 p.m. the same day.
“We’re hearing from mothers who have three kids that this is a game-changer,” Markley said. “They can go online, they buy their groceries, schedule their pickup time, and they’re in and out in four minutes.”
Markley said designated employees have been trained to pick out the best produce items and put together shoppers’ items.
Customers can get discount of $10 off a $50 purchase by using the promo code REALEASY.
Participating stores in the Acadiana area include 2428 W. Pinhook Road, Lafayette; 1932 Rees St., Breaux Bridge; and 1205 E. Admiral Doyle Dr., New Iberia.
The service is part of a nationwide rollout, so expect more Wal-Mart stores to offer curbside pickup in the future.
