NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – State Police say two women are dead after a wrong-way crash early this morning in Iberia Parish.
The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. on US 90 near LA 675, east of New Iberia.
Cypress Boudreaux, 22, of St. Martinville, and Tessie Sylvester, 38, of New Iberia, were pronounced dead at the scene by Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.
Master Trooper Brooks David said investigators determined the crash happened as Boudreaux was driving a 2004 Mini Cooper westbound in the eastbound lanes of US Hwy 90.
Boudreaux crashed almost head-on into 2009 KIA Optima driven by Sylvester in the eastbound lane, according to David.
Police say Boudreaux was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Sylvester was not.
Troopers suspect impairment to a contributing factor in the crash.
Investigators obtained blood samples from both crash victims that will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
David said State Police want to remind residents to “Never drive impaired, wear a seat belt, and avoid distractions.”
