City of Opelousas kicks off Veteran’s Day activities with flag raising ceremony

OPELOUSAS, La (KLFY) – Veterans in the city of Opelousas came together Tuesday morning to mark the start of this year’s Veteran’s Day activities.

The event kicked off with the raising of the military flags in honor of veterans.

ROTC cadets from Northwest High School and band members from Opelousas Jr. High also took part in the event.

Organizers Dorothy Thomas and Annie LaFontaine say they’ve been putting on this program for about the last 10 years.

“With all the programs we have been doing for the veterans, it’s to bring awareness especially to the young people the importance of our veterans and their service to keeping our country free,” said LaFontaine.

LaFontaine says they’ll also hold a parade on Veteran’s Day followed by a memorial program.
