LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – UL-Lafayette Police responded to a report of a loud noise at Legacy Park Apartments on Wednesday evening at approximately 7:22 p.m.
Witnesses reported hearing the loud noise coming from an apartment and seeing two subjects coming out of the apartment and fleeing the area.
Lieutenant Bryan Adams says it was later determined that the occupants of the apartment were playing with what was believed to be an M80 firework that went off.
One of the subjects suffered a hand injury and was transported by a friend to a local hospital.
Lieutenant Adams says that, as a precaution, the building was evacuated and the UL K-9 Unit was called to check the area.
Students were allowed back inside once the area was deemed safe.
The investigation remains ongoing.
