Northwest High School (9-0) staying optimistic about defeating rivals

OPELOUSAS, La (KLFY) – This is the best season ever for the Northwest High School Raiders football team who currently stand undefeated with a 9-0 record.

“This will be the first time in the history of the school that our young men have the opportunity to go undefeated during the regular season,” said Northwest High School Principal, Gregory Campbell.

The Northwest High Raiders football team has hit a new milestone and the team was honored during a pep rally at the school Friday afternoon.

“Definitely excited about them trying to accomplish something they haven’t accomplished before,” said Northwest High Head Football Coach, Chris Edwards.

Edwards says the best record the team has ever had was last year when they finished the regular season 8-2.

“We finished 10-3 with a lost in the playoffs before that I think the most wins they had was 6, so the past two years we started to amount victories and we hope that we can just continue building the program here,” explained Coach Edwards.

Coach Edwards has been head football coach for the last three years and says the team has overall been executing at a higher level.

“Hopefully we ride that momentum to the dome, that’s what our goal is,” said Campbell. “Hopefully we can take an undefeated season and go 15-0 and come back with a state championship to St. Landry Parish.”

At Friday night’s game, Campbell and Coach Edwards say you can expect the Raiders to just truly play their hearts out.

“We just hope to get another W at the end of the night,” said Coach Edwards.

“Hopefully you’ll watch us to victory,” said Campbell. “GO RAIDERS!”

The Northwest Raiders will face their rivals, the Port Barre Red Devils, in the final game of the regular season.

Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Northwest High School.
