WOODRUFF, S.C. (CBS News) – Another body has been found on the rural south Carolina property owned by a suspected serial killer where a inside a metal container last week, a coroner said.
Todd Kohlhepp, 45, led investigators to the location of two gravesites on the Woodruff property after his arrest in the kidnapping of Kala Brown, 30. Investigators heard Brown banging from the inside of the padlocked 30 foot by 15 foot container as they served a search warrant related her missing case Thursday, Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said.
One body was uncovered at the location Kolhepp pointed to on Sunday, and another was discovered Monday, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said at a press conference Monday night.
Brown’s boyfriend Charlie Carver, with whom she had vanished from Anderson in late August, was also found dead on the property, bringing the total number of bodies uncovered on the sprawling 100-acre lot to three. Investigators say Kohlhepp also confessed to the shooting deaths of four people in aIn total, he is a suspect in seven deaths.
Clevenger did not release details on the state of the two bodies found Sunday and Monday, including their gender or whether they were decomposed, pending an examination. Both of the bodies were removed from the lot Monday and are now off-site, he said.
“I can’t state how long they have been deceased or how long they have been buried,” Clevenger said.
Lt. Kevin Bobo, a spokesman for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s office, said the majority of the property has been searched and authorities don’t believe they will uncover any more remains. He said there would be a “scaled-down” law enforcement presence at the site Tuesday to re-check the grounds.
“Right now we feel like we have found all the bodies that are here,” Bobo said.
On Sunday, Kohlhepp appeared in an orange jumpsuit for the brief bond hearing and declined to make a statement. He’s indicated he is not planning on hiring an attorney.
