OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – St. Landry Parish sheriff’s deputies have found a burglary suspect that was hiding in a home north of Opelousas.

Major Eddie Thibodeaux said neighbors reported seeing a man break into a home near the corner of Tulip Drive and Henry Drive but did not see him leave.

A SWAT team and canine officers searched the house twice before locating the suspect hiding in a closet of the home.

Thibodeaux identified the suspect as Diontra Collins, 20, who was wanted for possession of stolen things in Ville Platte.

Collins was arrested this morning on the charge of burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Guidroz issued a statement saying:

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the citizens in the neighborhood that took the time to get involved and reported the burglary. Working together with law enforcement took a burglar off the streets.”
