SCOTT, La. (KLFY) – Fire officials are investigating what caused a residential fire early Friday morning in Scott.

Crews responded to the scene just after 2:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Lormand Road.

Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the building and they were able to bring the fire under control quickly.

Chief Chad Sonnier says the homeowner was able to make it out of the home safely because of a smoke detector alerting her in her sleep.

No other injuries were reported due to the fire, but the home was a total loss as a result of the damage.

Sonnier says the incident was ruled accidental in nature, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
