Don’s Speciality Meats rebuilding after fire

After a recent fire at its Carencro location, Don’s Speciality Meats, which has a second location in Scott, is now in the process of rebuilding its North Lafayette location and hoping to stay on track in opening by Fall, 2017.

According to the Lafayette Fire Department,  just after 9 a.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 fire crews from Lafayette, Carencro, Duson and the St. Landry Parish area responded to a call at the business located at the intersection of Hwy.104 and Hwy 726 in Carencro.

An employee said they were preparing for the huge Sunday lunch crowd when they noticed smoke coming from the roof near the bbq pit area, and evacuated the building immediately.

It took fire officials less than an hour to get the blaze under control, and it was ruled accidental.

Owner Mark Cole said the blaze started from a grease fire in the kitchen and essentially caused a total loss.

Recently, Cole purchased more than 2 acres of land about four blocks away from the previous location and has marked the location with a sign that reads Coming 2017, “Future Home of Don’s Speciality Meats.”
The new address will be 4120 NE Evangeline Thruway, directly off of I-49 in the Carencro city limits.
