LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – An 18-year-old suspect is in custody after allegedly shooting a 15-year-old in Lafayette this afternoon.
The victim was identified by the Lafayette Parish School System as a student at Northside High School.
The shooting happened after school and away from the campus around 3:20 p.m. in the 2000 block of Moss Street.
Corporal Bridgette Dugas, a police spokesperson, said the victim was shot multiple times but is currently in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital.
The suspect was allegedly riding a bike when they approached the victim who was walking on the sidewalk.
Investigators say the suspect shot the victim multiple times before abandoning his bike and running away.
Randy Bernard, an LPSS spokesperson, said the school system is cooperating with the Lafayette Police Department to quickly end the investigation.
