LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) – Lafayette Police are searching for two suspects in connection with a shooting Sunday evening in the 800 block of N. Pierce St.

Ashley Breaux, a witness to the crime, described to News 10 the moment right after she heard gunshots rang out leading to a car crash at the corner of Lena St. and N. Pierce St.

I was at the front of my shop by the door and we heard gunshots, like 4 or 5 gunshots, and when we turned to look we saw a car burning rubber and then hitting a pole,” explained Breaux.

Authorities say a man was driving a car with his wife and two children inside when he was shot–resulting in him crashing into a utility pole.

“We were immediately shocked when we heard the gunshots and then we saw the car and we heard a girl screaming,” said Breaux.

Breaux says she was working in her shop just feet away from where the car crashed.

“My mom, she’s in nursing school, so she was just like ‘I got to go help em Ash,’ so she went to help and me and my friend went with her,” said Breaux.

Police say the victim was shot in the chest and hand. He was rushed to a hospital where we’re last told he is in stable condition.

The victim’s wife and two children weren’t shot, but received minor injuries from the car crash.

Breaux commends the community effort of neighbor’s trying to help the family.

“What impressed me the most about yesterday is the community,” said Breaux. “The community came and they weren’t just seeing what happened, they were trying to help this young man.”

Now police are searching for two suspects seen on a surveillance camera running away from the scene. Police say one suspect is seen holding a gun.

Anyone with any information on this shooting is asked to contact Lafayette Police.
