Police: Jennings city inspector shot in sleep by grandson

JENNINGS, La. (KLFY) – Authorities say the current Jennings city inspector and former Jefferson Davis Parish sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed in his sleep last night.

Police Chief Todd D’albor said 17-year-old Parker Gary has been charged for first-degree murder in the death of his 60-year-old grandfather Warren Gary.

Officers responded around midnight to Gary’s home in the 600 block of Highway 90 after reports of shots fired.

Warren Gary worked for the city of Jennings for several years and worked as a sheriff’s deputy for 20 years.

Deputy Chief Danny Semmes said Parker Gary lived at the residence with his grandfather.

The American Press reported investigators believe robbery to be a motive in the shooting.
