OPELOUSAS, La (KLFY) – A ‘Thanks-Giving’ committee has been formed in the city of Opelousas.
The main purpose of the group is to give back to the community and help feed the less fortunate on Thanksgiving Day.
The committee is organizing a first of its kind Thanksgiving Day dinner that will take place next Thursday at South Street Elementary from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Opelousas City Councilman, Julius Alsandor, says it’s an idea of residents, Joe and Toni Effingger, who wanted to do something different for the citizens of St. Landry Parish.
“We will serve those who come through the door and will not tell anyone no,” said Councilman Alsandor. “We’ll serve until the food is gone.”
Councilman Alsandor says door prizes will also be given away at the dinner.
If you’re in need of a ride, there will be four pick-up sites:
- Holy Ghost Catholic Church
- Donald Gardner Stadium
- Opelousas Housing Authority
- Yambilee Building
You must be at the site by 10 a.m. for pickup.
