Elderly man carjacked/abducted near Abbeville

ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputies are investigating the carjacking and subsequent abduction of an elderly victim just outside of Abbeville earlier this morning.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Dollar General at 1912 South State Street around 9:30 a.m.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon said the victim, a man in his 80s, was approached by a man with a gun that got into the care and demanded the victim drive away.

The victim was taken to a rural part of the parish near the intersection of LA 335 and Junius road where the suspect forced the victim out of the car and hit the victim with his gun.

The suspect then stole the victim’s wallet, checkbook, and truck and left the victim on the side of the road.

Couvillon described the suspect as a “white male in his thirties with light colored hair and a scraggly facial hair wearing blue jeans and a dark-colored shirt.”

The victim’s truck is a 2014 Nissan Frontier extended cab pick-up dark red in color with a dark red Tonneau hard cover on the back.

Deputies are working to identify the suspect. Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to call (337) 898-4403.
