Jeanerette shipbuilder’s expansion at Franklin facility to create 35 jobs

JEANERETTE, La. (KLFY) – Jeanerette-based shipbuilder, Metal Shark, will expand production at its waterfront shipbuilding complex in Franklin.

The company will add at least 35 jobs to the Franklin facility by the second quarter of 2017, according to a news release.

Since opening in 2014, the shipyard has a variety of vessels including, fireboats, patrol boats, pilot boats, and port security vessels for military, government and commercial clients.

A 200′ by 80′ large vessel assembly building will be built as well as a new 4,000 square feet administrative office.

In 2017, the facility will build a 45’ pilot boat, a multi-boat Navy contract for 50’ high-speed vessels, a 64’ survey boat for the US Army Corps of Engineers, a 70’ supply boat for a Northeast operator, and a 158’ Incat Crowther-designed catamaran for a private client.
