CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WKRN) – Multiple deaths were reported and at least 23 were injured in a “very serious” school bus crash in Chattanooga on Monday.
It happened on Talley Road at 3:30 p.m. local time.
Both the Chattanooga Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol confirm multiple people died.
According to ABC-affiliate WTVC, the DA’s office confirmed at least five victims were found dead on bus and another passed away at a local hospital.
Col. Tracy Trott with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said on Twitter his “heart goes out to the families of the children that were killed & injured in the school bus crash in Chattanooga this evening.”
Police stated that the bus driver is being questioned and cooperating with investigators.
WTVC reprots the bus was from Woodmore Elementary School. It was carrying roughly 35 students at the time of the crash.
During a press conference, Assistant Chief Tracy Arnold said the ages of the students ranged from kindergarten through fifth grade, according to the Associated Press.
The cause of the crash remains unknown.
