RAYNE, La. (KLFY) – State Police are investigating a fiery crash that killed an unidentified person early Sunday morning in Acadia Parish.
The crash happened on US 90 in Rayne just after 2:30 a.m. on November 20, 2016.
Master Trooper Brooks David said a 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer was traveling west when the car crossed the median, ran off of the left side of the roadway, entered a ditch and struck a utility pole.
The car caught on fire after hitting the utility pole. Investigators do not know whey the car crossed the median.
The driver did not escape the fire and was pronounced dead by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Their identity remains unknown at this time.
Troopers are working to positvely identify the driver, according to David.
It is not clear if the driver was wearing a seatbelt due to the damage sustained during the crash.
