LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) – Preparations are underway for businesses preparing to serve Thanksgiving day meals.
Bailey’s Seafood & Grill is one of several places where the kitchen staff has been working around the clock getting things prepped and ready to go for Thanksgiving Day, when they expect to serve about 800 people.
“We’ve been preparing since last Friday or Saturday,” said restaurant owner, Ema Haq.
For 24 years now, Bailey’s has served FREE Thanksgiving dinners to the less fortunate.
“I’m so thankful for everything we have and I don’t know how better I can spend my week or day than reaching out to the people and make a difference,” said Haq.
Haq says he and his staff have been putting in numerous hours to make sure the community is well fed.
“You can tell it’s a lot of work,” said Haq. “We’ve been preparing and tomorrow morning we’ll be here at 5 a.m.”
Haq’s employees are equally excited to spend Thanksgiving doing for others.
“It gets a little crazy, but we serve a lot of people pretty much every Thanksgiving,” said manager, Jeremy Whitman. “I want to say about two Thanksgivings ago we reached almost a thousand, so there’s a lot of hungry people out there that we have to take care of.”
The restaurant will even take care of the elderly and disabled by delivering meals to those who are not able to come, as well as provide rides for those with no transportation.
“So far, I think we have over 500-600 people we’ve already booked; to go pick them up, drop them off, bring food,” said Haq. “There’s a lady who called from Kaplan, so we go anywhere from Kaplan to Opelousas.”
Haq says there will be plenty of food to go around.
Dinner will be served from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
