LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – As many hit the stores this holiday season there are few safety tips in keep in mind to ensure you and your family have a safe shopping experience.
Black Friday is two days away and that means many will be hitting the stores for some holiday deals. Others avoid the large crowds, but regardless of when you do your shopping, safety should always be a priority.
“I bring an ice chest and purses go in the ice chest in the back so I’m completely covered,” said Joey Fontenot.
During this time of the year, unfortunately, thieves are on the prowl and Lafayette Police is making sure you do not become a victim this holiday season.
“Starting tomorrow we are going to have increased patrols. We are going to have officers at every major shopping center throughout the city,” said officer Karl Ratcliff.
Joey Fontenot said she and her daughter always follow these measures when hitting the stores.
“We always have our keys in our hand. We look before we go out into the parking lot, we look around the car.”
To avoid being an easy target, Ann Crim suggests shopping early.
“No, I kind of don’t shop all at once and I tend to start really early. I mean, I usually start shopping in like October,” said Crimm.
And finally, protecting you and your property can be as easy as a click of a button.
“Lock your vehicles. It’s the simplest thing, the easiest thing, but it can be the most effect thing,” said Ratcliff.
