The Lafayette Senior Center, also known as the Greenhouse is celebrating its 40th year with music fun and food.
The Greenhouse Senior Center is a Lafayette Consolidated Government facility.
It was the first senior citizen center in the Hub City that opens its doors to Lafayette parish residents ages 55 and up.
“LCG is exited that the senior center has been here for 40 years,” says Amy Deville, The Human Service Manager at LCG. “We hope to be around for many many more and to be able to provide this for seniors.”
Elaine Darbonne, the Senior Center Coordinator of the Greenhouse says “A lot of people don’t have family around, they don’t have anything to do, this is a safe place for them to come.””
The facility offers exercise groups, like line dancing, games, like bingo, and other fun activities.
“I’ve seen a lot of them come and go and they cant tell me how much this makes them feel good to come, just be with other people, get them out of the home out of loneliness,” says Darboone.
The 40th year celebration featured music from Major Handy and Francis, along with food, games, and prizes.
