List Of Closures/Cancellations In Acadiana Due To Tropical Storm Harvey

Court

All of the parish courthouses in The 15th Judicial District will be closed tomorrow. This includes courts in Acadia, Lafayette, and Vermilion Parishes.

Lafayette City Court will be OPEN tomorrow as of right now. City Court officials are monitoring the situation.

State Offices

State offices will be closed Wednesday, August 30 in the following parishes:

ACADIA, ALLEN, BEAUREGARD, CALCASIEU, CAMERON, EVANGELINE, IBERIA, JEFFERSON DAVIS, LAFAYETTE, ORLEANS, ST. LANDRY, ST. MARTIN, ST. MARY, VERMILION and VERNON.

State officials continue to monitor conditions throughout the state, and these announcements may be updated as conditions change.

CLOSED: ALL 15TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURTHOUSES

As of this writing, the VERMILION PARISH COURTHOUSE closed at noon today; the ACADIA and LAFAYETTE PARISH COURTHOUSES will close at 2:00 p.m. today.  All PARISH courthouses in the 15th JUDICIAL DISTRICT  will remain closed through Tuesday, August 29.
All parish courthouses will reopen for business as usual on Wednesday,  August 30, unless further orders are issued. For updates, check the court’s website – http://www.15thjdc.org

Persons summoned to appear in Lafayette before Judge Castle on Tuesday, August 29,  at 1:00 p.m., should now appear Thursday, August 31, at 10:00 a.m. If you are summoned to appear for jury duty, call the number on your summons for further instruction. All other hearings scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, will be rescheduled for a later date.

CALCASIEU

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be closed on Monday, August 28 for non-essential personnel.

The Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, in consultation with Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso, issued an executive order to close the Calcasieu River to all recreational boat traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.

The order prohibits all recreational boat traffic on the Calcasieu River from the Interstate 10 Bridge north to the parish line.The order will remain in place until further notice.

IBERIA PARISH

 

The Iberia Parish Courthouse, court offices and clerk of court’s office will be closed Wednesday, August 30, 2017.  The Iberia Parish Courthouse will reopen for business as usual on Thursday, August 31st  at 9:00 a.m., unless further orders are issued otherwise.

All jurors who have been summoned to appear in Iberia Parish before Judge Thibodeaux on Wednesday, August 30th are to call the number on your summons after 5:00 p.m. on August 30th for further instruction. 

St. Martin Parish and St. Mary Parish Courthouses WILL REMAIN OPEN as scheduled.

Arc of Acadiana will be opened in both Lafayette and New Iberia today, Monday, August 28. (uncertain of closures today, August 29)

LAFAYETTE

CLOSED – All Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana locations (Lafayette, New Iberia, Opelousas, and Abbeville) will be closed Tuesday; August 28, 2017.

CANCELED –  The UL at Lafayette Football Game Staff training tonight & tomorrow night at the Leon Moncla Training Facility from 5:30-8:30pm has been cancelled. Please call the CAJUNDOME at 337-265-2100 for more information.

CANCELED – LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD COMMITTEE MEETING: Due to inclement weather, the Employee Insurance Advisory Committee Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, 2017 has been cancelled.

CLOSED – St. Julien Park in Broussard will be closed today, August 29, 2017 and will remain closed until conditions improve

CLOSED – LARC and Acadian Village will be closed August 29. Administrative personnel are asked to report to work if able.

SWLA Center for Health Services will be closed Tuesday, August 29th for all locations (Lake Charles, Lafayette, Oberlin, and Crowley).

ST. MARTIN PARISH

CLOSED – ST. MARTIN COUNCIL ON AGING 

The St. Martin Council on aging will be closed and will not be preparing lunches tomorrow.

 

EVANGELINE PARISH

Evangeline Parish Town Hall – Canceled

Due to the unpredictable weather conditions caused by Hurricane Harvey, Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-04) must cancel his previously scheduled town hall in Evangeline Parish. The meeting was meant to take place this Wednesday in Ville Platte, Louisiana.

“It is with deep regret that we must cancel our town hall in Ville Platte and other planned events in the area on Wednesday due to unpredictable weather conditions in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. We continue to offer our prayers and assistance to those in the areas affected by this devastating event. In the midst of the storms, it is encouraging to see neighbors helping neighbors and people pulling together to do what resilient Louisianians do best. May God bless and protect all those who are struggling in Texas and here in our state.”

 

 

– BAYOU VERMILION –

The Lafayette Bayou Vermilion District admonishes the public to stay off of the Vermilion River. The river is nearing flood stage, which is 10 feet, and is expected to increase. In fact, due to continuous rain conditions, it will remain above flood stage for the foreseeable future. During this time, only emergency operations should be conducted on the Vermilion until it returns below flood stage.

Also, Vermilionville and its restaurant La Cuisine de Maman will be closed Tuesday, August 29 due to anticipated heavy rains. We are monitoring the situation and will assess conditions to determine a reopen date.

 

 

LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES CLOSURES

LDWF to close Elmer’s Island due to Hurricane Harvey Sunday at Noon
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will temporarily close Elmer’s Island beginning on Sunday, August 27 at 12:00 pm, due to the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Harvey. As a precautionary and preparedness measure Elmer’s Island will remain closed until further notice.

LDWF has postponed issuance of alligator hunting licenses and tags for the upcoming 2017 wild alligator season at the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge due to the impacts of Tropical Storm Harvey. The dates for the alligator license and tag issuance were scheduled for Tuesday (Aug. 29) and Wednesday (Aug. 30). LDWF will alert the public of the rescheduled dates once conditions have improved.

STATE PARK CLOSURES

All six sites of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve as well as both sites of New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park will close beginning at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, and remain closed through Sunday, August 27, due to expected severe weather from Hurricane Harvey.

· Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Headquarters and French Quarter Visitor Center, 419 Decatur Street, New Orleans
· Barataria Preserve, 6588 Barataria Boulevard, Marrero (trails and parking lots will be closed in addition to visitor center closure)
· Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery, 8606 West St. Bernard Highway, Chalmette (battlefield and national cemetery grounds will be closed in addition to visitor center closure)
· Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, 314 St. Mary Street, Thibodaux
· Acadian Cultural Center, 501 Fisher Road, Lafayette
· Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, 250 West Park Avenue, Eunice

· New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Headquarters (419 Decatur Street) and visitor centers (916 North Peters Street, Old US Mint/400 Esplanade Avenue), New Orleans

Palmetto Island State Park In ABBEVILLE – CLOSED THROUGH THURSDAY, AUGUST 31.

Sam Houston Jones State Park in LAKE CHARLES – CLOSED THROUGH SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER, 3.

Cypremort Point State Park in CYPREMORT POINT ON VERMILION BAY – CLOSED THROUGH SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3.

POST OFFICE CLOSINGS

U.S. Postal Service Louisiana District Manager Stephen Hardin announced today that, until  further notice, due to Tropical Storm Harvey, retail and delivery operations have been suspended at the following offices. The list below shows alternate locations where customers may conduct retail transactions; pick up their mail, drop shipments and collections.
