LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Corporal Michael Middlebrook, a nine-year patrol veteran for the Lafayette Police Department, was shot and killed late Sunday night. His unit is now parked outside of the Lafayette Police station serving as a memorial to remember his life and service.
Loved ones, community members, and complete strangers have covered the unit in flowers, cards, and balloons to pay their respects.
“Mike was such a good guy, that he affected so many people in so many ways. He’d go out of his way to check on you to make sure you were okay,” says Dean Martin a church friend of Middlebrook.
Dean says he will deeply miss Michael.
“We were planning our first fishing trip together in a couple of weeks, I don’t think he’s gonna make it but he will still be here with me,” says Martin.
Paula Bray, a native of Lafayette, lives in Texas now but felt the need to pay her respects to Middlebrook.
She says, “It’s at the point in the world, do you want to be a police officer anymore and that’s just so heartbreaking.”

Visitation for Cpl. Middlebrook will be held on Thursday, October 5 from 5pm to 9pm at Our Savior’s Church in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6. General visitation is from 9am to 12pm with services starting 12pm.
