How the Dow Jones industrial average fared Tuesday

U.S. stock indexes dropped on Tuesday, led by losses in utilities. Stocks also moved lower on signs that the dollar was close to resuming its advance against the euro and other major currencies.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 104.90 points, or 0.6 percent, to 18,011.14.

The S&P 500 fell 12.92 points, or 0.6 percent, to close at 2,091.50.

The Nasdaq composite slipped 16.25 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,994.73.

For the week:

The Dow is down 116.51 points, or 0.6 percent.

The S&P 500 index is down 16.60 points, or 0.8 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 31.69 points, or 0.6 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 188.07 points, or 1.1 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 32.60 points, or 1.6 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 258.67 points, or 5.5 percent.
