Lake Charles bans sale of vapor tobacco to minors

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — The Lake Charles City Council has voted to amend an ordinance on the sale of tobacco products to minors.

Councilman Dana Jackson sponsored the amendment, which adds “alternative nicotine products and vapor products” to the list of products prohibited from being sold to people under 18.

Jackson told the American Press () he originally introduced the item based on a recommendation from Lake Charles police. He said the purpose of having an ordinance in place on the products is to require offenders to go to City Court instead of district court.

The council’s changes mirror the changes that took place on the state level in 2014 when the Legislature banned the sale of e-cigarettes and vapor pens to minors.
