NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Institute of Museum and Library Services says the Louisiana Children’s Museum is getting the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
A news release Tuesday says the museum in New Orleans is among 10 museums and libraries in eight states from New York to California that are getting the honor for extraordinary and innovative public service.
It will be presented May 18 in Washington.
The institute says it’s honoring the Louisiana museum for community programs which focus on early childhood development, resiliency building, family literacy, parenting and other critical life skills.
The winners were chosen from 30 finalists. Other states represented are Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas, New Mexico and Arizona.
