COVINGTON, La. (AP) — State police say Interstate 12 in both directions near the Goodbee community in St. Tammany Parish has been reopened after nearly six hours closed due to an ammonia leak at the Diversified Foods just west of Covington.
Trooper Dustin Dwight says the plant was evacuated as crews worked to air out the building where the leak occurred. No injuries were reported.
State police, the Department of Environmental Quality, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, and St. Tammany Fire Districts 4 and 13 are at the site on Louisiana Highway 1085 just north of Interstate 12.
Officials from the Department of Environmental Quality will remain onsite to monitor air around the plant.
